Il Caffe Di Roma (LAVAZZA)

I went to this cafe and tried their cappuccino and it was the best. As I was late to meet my husband I thought I should just do a small take away. I ordered.... ah... ah...  kill me I can't remember the name the good thing is I have the photo. Well, it was a very healthy and delicious snack. The bread tasted fresh and I really enjoyed the salad complimented with a very nice balsamic dressing. I can't even wait to take a photo I munch the other half of the sandwich right away.

The outside sitting makes this cafe a very nice place for breakfast. You must check out their cappuccino it's really very good.

Trader Vic's Madinat Jumeirah

I had lunch at Trader Vic's alone to finish off my last Cedars voucher. It's a free meal worth AED 80. Went to Trader Vic's and asked the waiter if I can sit outside but unfortunately it's too full. There seem to be a lot of tourist coming to Dubai for Christmas. Not that this is a Christian country but maybe because we have a very nice weather during this time of the year.

The waiter gave me a basket of crackers and I should have taken a photo of it so someone can tell me what it's called. Anyway, I ordered the Trader Vic's chicken curry and a small bottle of water. The curry cost AED 75 and the water is AED 15. I hate spending money on water when it's marked up fifteen times. Anyway, most of the drinks here are way too expensive but their cocktails are really good.

My curry arrived and it was nicely presented with a few little condiments. It's the first time I ever tried a chicken curry like that and it was really gooood. So, if you are a curry lover why don't you take a look at the photo and try to copy the presentation. The chopped tomatoes, cucumber and peanut  gave it a nice crunchy taste and it adds to the flavor.

Aspen at Kempinski Dubai Mall of Emirates

I took my son to Aspen for breakfast on the 27th of December. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with white Christmas trees. The buffet has a very good selection and it's priced at AED 150. I chose the ala carte menu and ordered eggs benedict my all time favorite AED 35. It's so yummy but a little bit sour. I also ordered the Aspen breakfast which consist of a basket of pasties and rolls, orange juice, and a choice of tea or coffee all this for AED 40. The pastries are fresh and really yummy.

One thing I liked about this restaurant is that the service is very good and the waitress who served us is very friendly. I will surely go back here for breakfast and I will invite along my husband.

Ibis Hotel Al Barsha close to Mall of Emirates

This hotel is only one or two star. It looks decent and clean - well I only went to the reception and restaurant area. I can see a few people checking in though so this must be a good affordable hotel. As this is a blog for restaurant review I should I guess focus on that.

The hotel has only one restaurant called AMICI (Italian resto) and one bar called EZAZ bar. I ordered a steak at the restaurant and I was disappointed because it's a bit hard and chewy. I want my steak to be juicy and tender. The side dish were delicious though but my friend went weird with the combination. The price is AED 75

I went to EZAZ bar to have a drink the bartender was a very friendly Chinese guy and he made me a very delicious piƱa colada. The price is AED 35

Is the restaurant and bar worth visiting? I think having this in a small hotel is handy for hotel guests more than a walk in diner.

Restaurants at Holiday Inn Al Barsha

I was given a Cedars voucher by a colleague which expires after two weeks (31st Dec 2011) to be exact. Hoping to use them all I dined everyday almost three times a day. I gained a lot of weight after that! So my New Year's goal is to loose them all.

Let me begin with the first stop - Holiday Inn Al Barsha. I work close by so it's very accessible to me. I invited a colleague and we went at Q (sports lounge) for lunch. We were hoping to eat there but the bartender told us we can use the voucher for take away - amazing we thought. So we did! Here's what we ordered:

1. Beer battered fish and chips - It wasn't the most delicious looking fish and chips that I've tried as the fish was covered in a brownish batter but I was surprised - it is actually delicious. The tartar sauce was nice and the chips were fresh.
2. Mexican Fajita - I've had better this one is a let down.
3. Holiday Inn Club Sandwhich - Average

In the evening we visited Mojito (bar) the menu here is almost exactly the same as the Q (sports lounge). We decided to get a take away. I tried the Indian platter and the beer battered fish and chips again. The Indian platter wasn't amazing I will rate it as average but I will not order it again if I go back. The prices here are from AED 30 - 40 for the snacks.

While waiting for our take away we decided to dine at Gharana (Indian restaurant). The restaurant has a live enetertainment. The female singer has a very nice voice. Although we don't understand Hindi we were amazed by the singing. We ordered Butter chicken an all time favorite of mine. Everytime I go to an Indian restaurant I always order butter chicken so I thought I'm an expert on butter chicken. I know when it's good or not. We ordered garlic naan to accompany the butter chicken and we also ordered chicken biryani. The butter chicken was tender and the serving is good enough for two people. I find it a little bit sour for my taste though. The garlic naan is thick although it tasted good, I don't like thick naan. If I order a pizza I would prefer thin crust over thick. The chicken biryani was good if I may rate it it will be a 7 out of 10. Prices are from AED 55 for the mains.

The next day (Wednesday) we went to get a take away at Al Sarab (Arabic restaurant). The restaurant have a live entertainment as well. They have a belly dancer the show doesn't start until 10:00pm. The waiters are a bit smiley and friendly. I find them cheeky! We have a voucher worth AED 70 and they don't want us to order anything on the menu except for the mix Arabic platter. We were not allowed to use two coupons at the same time so I asked my colleague Joy to go ahead. She had two containers of her take away but the next day when I went it was only one container. The small container consists of one kofta, three chunks of chicken, one lamb chop, and two chunks of beef. The food was actually good and the beef was super tender. I will not go back to dine there for the reason that I find cheated on my order. Prices are from AED 35 to AED 70 for the mains.

I also went and got a take away at The Royal Buddha (Thai restaurant). I ordered green prawn curry and red beef curry. When I got home I realized they have given me a green beef curry instead of red. Anyway, the green prawn curry was amazingly delicious so as the green beef curry. I love the small circle eggplants that they put on it as it adds a very nice flavor to the dish. I will give it an 8 out of 10 because the Chef seems to be a salt lover. The food is almost too salty to enjoy. The flavor was great so if you plan to visit the place go and tell them to go easy on the salt. The prices here vary from AED 55 - AED 65 for a main dish.

I took a peep at Gems restaurant while waiting for my take away at The Royal Buddha. I have been there before for an International buffet night and I find the food really good. They have a seafood night every Wednesday for AED 99. It does not include drinks but looking at the seafood selection I may consider dining there on Wednesday. They have fresh lobsters, oysters, mussels, and king prawns. Oh... I'm salivating already.

On Thursday I invited my husband to dine at Sushi Folie. We got to sample some sushis and I find it ordinary. I got to take a peep at the buffet though and the selection although very small I find it delish. I wouldn't pay AED 120 for it though. They only have a few tables and the restaurant look a bit lonely.

The same night I got a take away at Xennya Terrace. This is at the roof top near the swimming pool area. It was freezing cold up there and it's too windy. Would be great to come here for a drink during summer. I ordered the steak sandwhich and I will surely recommend you to order this. The Filipina lady was very nice and accommodating. I like this restaurant. Prices are from AED 40 - AED 65.

Holiday Inn Al Barsha is actually a nice hotel. It might be the biggest Holiday Inn hotel here in Dubai. I've been to the Safa park and the Jumeirah branch but I think the Al Barsha is bigger and more restaurant selection. It's the same side as Mall of Emirates so it's located in Shk Zayed Road. They have a free parking at the basement and they have an open parking as well. As I have visited the restaurants on a weekday I find it very quite. Almost empty actually. The waiters and waitresses here are very nice and friendly except for the cheeky ones at the Al Sarab restaurant.

Over all rating for this hotel is 6 out of 10.
